Tuesday evening, PSG plays big in Lisbon. But many will look in vain for the match on Canal+.

THE
Paris Saint-Germain

travels to Lisbon this Tuesday to face the
Sporting CP
as part of the 7th day of the league phase of the Champions League. A high-stakes poster, since the Parisians, already qualified, are now aiming for a place in the top 8 in order to avoid the play-offs and offer themselves a more favorable European spring. However, when switching, one observation will surprise more than one subscriber: the match will not be broadcast on Canal+ classic.

An absence that questions subscribers

Contrary to popular belief, this choice is not an oversight. For the 2025-2026 season,
Canal+
has profoundly reorganized its European grid. The group now reserves its main channel for the big Wednesday evening event, while the Tuesday program is almost systematically delegated to its thematic channels. A logic directly linked to the distribution of rights packages negotiated with UEFA, and assumed by the broadcaster.

Concretely, Sporting-PSG will kick off this Tuesday, January 20 at 9 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast live and exclusively on Canal+ Foot, accessible via the group’s sports offers and on myCanal. The other matches of the evening will be divided between Canal+ Sport and the Canal+ Live channels, while the general Canal+ channel will retain its showcase for the Wednesday poster.

A strategy assumed by Canal+

On the ground, the challenge remains major. Third in the standings with 13 points, PSG has only a short margin over its pursuers. A misstep could restart the race for the top 8. Opposite, Sporting, formidable at the José-Alvalade stadium, have won their three European matches at home this season and still harbor the hope of direct qualification. A context which reinforces the importance of this poster, even without exposure on the flagship channel.

By favoring its specialized channels on Tuesdays, Canal+ seeks to promote its overall sports offering, in a landscape deprived of Ligue 1 since 2024. With an expanded Champions League format and an unprecedented volume of matches, this distribution is becoming the norm. For subscribers, the rule is now clear: on Tuesday, the Champions League can be seen on Canal+ Foot; Wednesday, on Canal+.
