The clash at the top of the Bundesliga kept all its promises. On the pitch in Leipzig, Bayern Munich, pushed around and held in check, struggled to find the fault. Time was running out, tension was rising, and Vincent Kompany then decided to launch his secret weapon. A Frenchman entered the field at the hour mark to dynamite a locked-in match. What was supposed to be a simple tactical adjustment turned into a show of force that left all of Germany speechless.
Olise, an entry that changes everything
This man is Michael Olise. In just over thirty minutes, the 24-year-old winger simply disgusted Leipzig and offered victory to Bayern (5-1). An assist for Harry Kane’s goal, another from a corner for Jonathan Tah, a third for Aleksandar Pavlović, before concluding his festival with a curling shot of which he has the secret. A goal, three assists, a monstrous performance which logically earned him the title of man of the match and the admiration of all observers.
Because this coup is only the resounding confirmation of a stratospheric half-season. Following the momentum of his great first campaign in Bavaria, Olise is walking on water. With already 10 goals and 13 assists in 18 appearances in the Bundesliga, he has established himself as the playing master of the Bavarian ogre, the technical leader of a team which is at the top of the championship. In Germany, there is no shortage of superlatives to describe its impact.
Michael Olise, hero of Bayern’s victory in Leipzig (5-1). A stunning start to the game: one goal, three assists. His season is phenomenal (10 goals, 13 assists), he has already established himself as the “new Robben” of the Bundesliga.
A “new Robben” is born
The German press is unanimous. She sees him as a “game-changer”, a “clutch” player capable of turning any match around. The most flattering, and most obvious, comparison has already been launched: Olise would be a “Robben reborn”, a “new Robben”, for his ability to get on his left foot and roll in unstoppable strikes. Some are even already mentioning the “New Robbery” duo that he formed with Luis DĂaz, in reference to the magical era of Robben and RibĂ©ry.
In the tradition of the great French wingers who have marked the history of the club, the French international is writing his own chapter, with a precocity and statistical efficiency perhaps never seen before. He is no longer a promise, he is a sure bet for the German big name. The Bundesliga is already at its feet, and Europe could well follow during the second part of the year.
