Since the departure of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, Manchester United have changed coaches more than won titles. A harsh reality. And yet, this is very true. Over the past 13 years, the Old Trafford team has won seven major trophies. A period during which they also experienced a curse since 10 coaches, including two temporary, came to the club. After the Scotsman with 38 titles and 1,500 matches on the English bench, David Moyes was the first to try his luck. But he only remained in post from July 2013 to April 2014. After interim Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal, José Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy (interim) and finally Ruben Amorim took on the role of coach of MU. A suit that many thought was tailor-made for the Portuguese.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe first. Accustomed to playing the miser in the Theater of Dreams, the British businessman, who also has a ghost costume in his closet that he does not hesitate to take out at OGC Nice, pulled out all the stops to convince Amorim, a coach who was on the rise and who was doing excellent work at Sporting CP. Ultimately, this bet did not pay off, both for Amorim, who was running a very large engine for the first time, and for the Mancuniens, who obviously did not bet on the right horse. The leaders of the Red Devils, some of whom come across as clowns in the eyes of certain supporters who can’t take it anymore, will have to start looking for a successor while Darren Fletcher will take over as interim manager.

Glasner, a favorite that is already emerging?

The English press already has names and ideas to take over in the north of England. THE Telegraph was the first to come up with a hell of a list where we find the name of Enzo Maresca, freshly on the market after his departure from Chelsea. Free, Xavi, Michael Carrick and former England coach Gareth Southgate are cited. Ditto for Zinedine Zidane, who has the French team in his sights. Unai Emery, whose work at Aston Villa is highly regarded, is also followed. But the Spaniard will be difficult, if not impossible, to dislodge from Birmingham. Kieran McKenna (Ipswich), Roberto De Zerbi (OM), who was already in contact with the club when he was at Brighton, are also named. But it is Oliver Glasner, at the end of his contract this summer at Crystal Palace, who is the favorite according to the Telegraph. Same for The Independent. The Eagles coach is also in the list revealed by The Sun.

The tabloid recalls that the Austrian, who is doing an excellent job at Crystal Palace, was linked to MU when it started to smell bad for Ruben Amorim. He is still favored by leaders. But he is not the only profile that pleases. In addition to Xavi, Enzo Maresca and Gareth Southgate who are also cited by The SunAndoni Iraola, who is doing a good job at Bournemouth, is on the shortlist. Ditto for Eddie Howe, who is under pressure at Newcastle where he has nevertheless accomplished a remarkable job. In addition to the 12 technicians mentioned, The Sun adds that Darren Fletcher, who manages the U18s and will act as interim manager, could be the surprise guest. But he seems to be out of the race, he who still has too little experience to claim this once prestigious bench. Right now, this coaching job at Manchester United mostly feels like a permanent, cursed ejection seat.
