Arsenal under tension

Tonight’s clash between Arsenal and Aston Villa will be very expensive. As for the British press, it is the Gunners transfer window that raises questions. Arsenal have never been in such a good position to go for a major title: they are first in the championship, first in the Champions League, but with injuries which are somewhat spoiling this first part of the season. For the moment, the Gunners are leaders in each competition, so there is no need to panic. At least, that’s how things should be. In recent weeks, however, a form of tension has been gripping the north London club. A fear of not winning, present for 21 years and the last Premier League title. The supporters contribute greatly to this palpable tension, just like Mikel Arteta, a veritable electric battery at the edge of the pitch. Even if Arsenal seems less sovereign in recent weeks, the victories are still there, and this is reflected in the standings. But the season is still long: Manchester City and Aston Villa are on the lookout. So be careful with the Gunners not to get burned.

Luis Suárez does better than Gyökeres

In Portugal, a serial scorer was born: Luis Suárez. We are not talking about the Uruguayan, former terror of Barça, Liverpool or even Atlético de Madrid, but of the Colombian, who passed through OM and left six months later in total anonymity. Arriving to replace Viktor Gyökeres, Luis Suárez did even better: he made the Swede forget. At the moment, his first season statistics are higher than those of Gyökeres. The former OM player has already scored 15 goals in all competitions, a great start to the season which confirms the choice of Sporting, which has relied on a promise of Football Manager, as the Portuguese press jokes. The newspaper Record goes even further by speaking of a “ demolisher “. Mocked at OM, then forgotten in the Spanish second division, Luis Suárez relaunched, at the age of 28, a career that was taking a complicated path. From now on, the Colombian international has become a real threat, both for the Portuguese defenses and for the European defenses, since he has already distinguished himself in the Champions League.

A departure from Nkunku already under study

In Italy, Christopher Nkunku is still in the news, but not for the same reasons as yesterday. It was for a double against Hellas Verona. Today, we are talking transfer window, since Fenerbahçe is very interested in his profile. As for the Rossoneri, this offer is currently under study. For the moment, no decision has been made. Even though Nkunku launched his adventure last Sunday, he has not yet proven that he is indispensable. Friday’s match, where he is announced as the starter, should say a lot about the rest of his story with AC Milan. And in the event of the French international’s departure, Milan have already anticipated. La Gazzetta dello Sport evokes two avenues to replace Christopher Nkunku: Jean-Philippe Mateta and Sidiki Chérif. Mateta is valued at 40 million euros, a little less for the young Angevin striker, who has fewer references, but has already shown all his talent on the pitches of Ligue 1. We will very quickly know what face the AC Milan attack will have for the second part of the season.
