For the 16th day of the Bundesliga this Sunday, Bayern Munich returned to the Allianz Arena with a fairly weak opponent on paper: Wolfsburg (14th). Leader of the German championship with 41 points, Vincent Kompany’s men arrived in good shape after a perfectly executed friendly match against Salzburg (5-0). Without needing to show their fangs to win, Bayern could therefore keep the lead in the championship at the end of the day. For their part, Lovro Majer’s teammates concluded the year 2025 with a crazy match against Freiburg, (synonymous with defeat (3-4). Aligned in a traditional 4-2-3-1, Wolfsburg could thus find the middle of the table, despite a strong opponent facing them.

The Bavarians started well, with a bit of luck. Luis Díaz accelerated down his left side, before sending a cross deflected by his opponent to the near post. Michael Olise put defender Kilian Fischer under pressure. He failed to shift, and the trajectory of the ball took the direction of his feet. An entry against his camp (5th, 1-0)! Moments later, despite the home side dominating, Majer quickly turned around, before finding Dzenan Pejcinovic in the penalty area. Without pressure, the German equalized for Wolfsburg (1-1, 13th). Nothing to bother Luis Diaz’s teammates, who regained the advantage with a header from the Colombian, scorer of his ninth goal of the season (30th, 2-1). Returning from the locker room, Michael Olise’s wrapped shot allowed Bayern to make the break (50th, 3-1). On the tough side, Daniel Bauer’s team did not contain the Bavarian attacks. Moritz Jenz, unlucky, scored… against his side in turn (4-1, 53rd). Raphaël Guerreiro added to the score (68th, 5-1), before Harry Kane (69th, 6-1) and Olise (76th, 7-1) – both served by Díaz – stood out again. Leon Goretzka finally completed this convincing success with his first achievement of the season (88th, 8-1). With this large victory (8-1), Bayern Munich is off to a perfect start to 2026 and is now 11 points ahead of Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga. On the other hand, the year is likely to be long for Wolfsburg, which has just conceded its biggest defeat in its history in the league.
