For the 16th day of the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen (3rd) hosted Stuttgart (6th) this Saturday late in the afternoon. At the BayArena, Kasper Hjulmand’s men were able to come back to within one point of Dortmund, author of a crazy match against Frankfurt yesterday (3-3). For their part, the visitors had the hope of reviving after their draw against Hoffenheim at the end of December, counting 26 points in the standings. Both structures were obliged to scrape points during this clash. In search of qualification for the Champions League, everything was up for grabs, nothing left, in a packed stadium.

Aligned in 3-4-2-1, Leverkusen shook from the start following a winning combination. The Undav-Leweling pair got going from the start of the match (7th, 0-1), directly showing their teeth to the locals. Twenty minutes later, Jeanuel Belocian was warned by the referee, after committing a foul in the area, which resulted in a penalty for Stuttgart. He finished at the bottom thanks to the composure of Maximilian Mittelstadt (29th, 0-2). In the tough, Martin Terrier’s teammates did not manage to get their heads above water before half-time. Leweling even got back into action to score the third goal of the match (45th + 1, 0-3). Undav, already a double passer, turned into a scorer before returning to the locker room (45+2, 0-4). Alejandro Grimaldo then reduced the score, also with a penalty (66th, 1-4). With this great victory acquired thanks to individualities (1-4), Sebastian Hoeness’s men therefore move up to fifth place in the ranking (29 points), just behind their opponent of the day (4th). Bayer therefore misses the opportunity to crack the top 3.
