Several targets have been considered in recent months, including Adam Wharton.
Real Madrid bosses spotted Wharton early last year. At 21, his profile fits the club’s transfer policy and, if he joins the Bernabéu, he could become a midfield mainstay alongside fellow Englishman Jude Bellingham, as well as Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde and Arda Güler.
Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea would also be interested in Wharton this summer, and according to the daily AS, Real Madrid would also be in the hot seat. The Madrid club have reportedly received an offer to complete the deal, with Crystal Palace demanding at least €70 million, while the player is said to be demanding an astronomical salary.

Why are Real Madrid interested in Wharton?
Wharton may not be a pure playmaker like Vitinha or Pedri, Real Madrid’s highly regarded midfielders, but Madrid’s management sees him as an excellent choice for Xabi Alonso’s team. He is seen as a hybrid and pragmatic player, tactically impeccable, capable of considerably influencing the game thanks to his intelligence. His maturity at just 21 years old is also an asset.
It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid intensify their interest in Wharton in the coming months. 70 million euros would be a very reasonable price for a player who has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world in the years to come.
