We are starting to see things more clearly in this Coupe de France. This weekend the 32nd finals of the oldest French competitions were contested, and the exploits were undeniably there. Among the Ligue 1 clubs, which were all entering the competition, two were unable to enforce the hierarchy against lower level clubs: Brest and Le Havre. The Bretons fell hard on Friday evening at Avranches, residents of National 2 (1-1, 5-4 tab), while the Normans took the door against Amiens this Sunday (0-2). Auxerre, for its part, fell against another L1 club: Monaco (2-1).
Speaking of the big names, they all held their place: Paris dominated the National 3 club of Fontenay (0-4), OM had fun with Bourg-en-Bresse (0-6), while the leader of Ligue 1, Lens, beat Feignies-Aulnoye (3-1). Lille made the difference at the very end of the match against Lusitanos St-Maur, residents of N2 (1-0), when OL won against St-Cyr at Groupama Stadium (0-3).
There will be two R1 clubs in the round of 16
On the amateur side, the mower was also active on certain lawns. This was particularly the case for Bayeux, a Regional 1 club, which will be the little thumb of these 16th finals of the Coupe de France alongside Montreuil. After having eliminated Caen earlier in the competition, the Normans created a sensation by beating Blois this time on penalties, an exercise which smiles on them since it is the fourth time that they have escaped through this door during their campaign.
For Montreuil, it is also a real achievement to find itself among the last 32 remaining teams. The Regional 1 players eliminated Chauvigny (2-1), reduced to 10 in the 13th second of play after the expulsion of Logan Assignon, brother of Lorenz. Also note the elimination of Bordeaux (N2). The Girondins collapsed at the very end of the match this Sunday against Puy-en-Velay (N1), who had benefited from a lucky penalty in stoppage time.
