Unsurprisingly, the programming of the L’Equipe channel for the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup caused a scandal among supporters of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

After having made big audience ratings with the Clasicos last year, in the final of the Spanish Super Cup then in the final of the Copa del Rey – for two coronations for Barça against Real (5-2 despite the opening score from Kylian Mbappé, then 3-2 thanks to Jules Koundé at the end of extra time) – the channel L’Equipe lost the Copa del Rey, recovered by DAZN, but bought the TV rights to the Supercup until 2028. A great deal.

Since 2020, the Spanish Super Cup has offered a Final Four and Blaugranas and Merengues, respectively reigning champions and vice-champions, are opposed respectively to Athletic Bilbao, 4th last spring, and Atlético for a derby in the capital. We are back in Saudi Arabia and the meetings are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, at 8 p.m. Madrid time.

However, the L’Equipe channel, a TNT channel and therefore free, does not broadcast live the two semi-finals, which can only be followed on L’Equipe live football, a channel available to subscribers of the platform.

The Dakar before Barça and Real

Like last year for other Real and Barça matches, the L’Equipe channel opts for a delayed broadcast. The half-time kickoffs are scheduled for 9:15 p.m. on the TNT channel. Outcry among supporters in France of the two Spanish giants.
Greg’s Team at 6:20 p.m. and the summary of the 4th stage of the Dakar are prioritized by the branch management, the Dakar Rally being an event organized by the Amaury group, which also owns L’Equipe.

The Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday will be broadcast live on the L’Equipe channel, with kick-off at 8 p.m. This time, the summary of the 11th stage of the Dakar will be offered at 6:50 p.m. If Real qualifies for the final, Kylian Mbappé, injured in a knee, could return in time to try to win a new title.
