The African Cup of Nations continues this Tuesday with a clash of the round of 16 between Algeria and DR Congo in Rabat (Morocco). A duel which promises spectacle on and off the field, but which some specialists consider questionable. This is particularly the case of Claude Le Roy.

The latter did not hide his annoyance. “This Algeria-DRC match annoys me. A 9-point team plays a 7-point team, while some 7-point teams play against 2-point teams.lamented the former coach, who was on the Leopards bench between 2004 and 2006, at the media microphone TheLink.

Housed in Group E, Algeria achieved a flawless performance during the group stage: 3-0 victory against Sudan, 1-0 success against Burkina Faso and another 3-1 success against Equatorial Guinea. Despite this perfect performance, the Fennecs find themselves facing a formidable team from the eighth, and will not benefit from an “affordable” opponent.

The draw reserved much more favorable confrontations for other nations. Egypt, first in group B with seven points, eliminated Benin, third in group D with three points. Likewise, Nigeria (9 points) beat Mozambique (3 points), while Morocco (7 points) knocked out Tanzania (2 points). This Algeria-DRC match therefore already promises to be under high tension.
