Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham has been defended by consultant Gordon Strachan, who insists Xabi Alonso and Thomas Tuchel must ‘protect’ the midfielder.

Bellingham has been at the center of controversy on the international scene and had already received support from Ian Wright.

Bellingham has been the target of much international criticism and has become a prime target for those who attack England on the international stage. Tuchel said he found certain behaviors from Bellingham “repugnant”, comments for which he later apologized. The reaction, considered angry, of the midfielder during his substitution against Albania also caused a lot of ink to flow.

Despite this, Wright had already taken a firm stand in Bellingham’s defense and Strachan today echoes him.

Wright said in November: “They need to create this kind of controversy because there is nothing else to say before the World Cup, and it will continue like this until the end.

They are furious at not being able to reach him. They are furious that they cannot damage his club career like they have done with so many others before him. A young man blessed by the gods, endowed with overflowing talent and affection.”

Strachan asks for protection

Strachan urged both Bellingham coaches, club and country, to protect him from attacks against him.

An old-fashioned professional, the former Manchester United and Leeds star told the Telegraph: “Poor guy, he knows if he plays even a little bit badly he’s going to get demolished. »

“At a club, you can demand anything from a player, given his salary. Bellingham is not here for the money, nor for the publicity; he is there to help his country shine, for his teammates, his friends, his family.

As a coach, we must protect them. If he lashes out – if that’s what annoys everyone – it’s nothing. I pity this kid. »
