Gianluigi Donnarumma’s partner will still have to wait. Transferred from PSG to Manchester City last summer, the goalkeeper dreams of participating in the 2026 World Cup with Italy, which missed the two previous editions. From June 11 to July 19, 48 nations will compete in North America, in a tournament jointly organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
But Italy’s qualification is not yet certain. The Squadra Azzurra will have to go through the European play-offs next March to join Group B (Canada, Qatar, Switzerland). The Italians will face Northern Ireland at home before traveling to Wales or Bosnia.
Despite these obstacles, Donnarumma and his teammates remain confident. The Manchester City goalkeeper even canceled his wedding to Alessia Elefante planned for this summer and postponed it, in order to remain fully focused on the World Cup. There is no question for him to miss the World Cup again, having never played in it in his career.

He wants to stay focused on the present moment and only thinks about his club and the Nazionale, because he wants with all his strength to go to the World Cup.explained his agent Enzo Raiola to Radio Sportiva.
Raiola also returned to Donnarumma’s surprising departure from PSG to Manchester City. “The summer was intense given what happened in Paris. Maybe one day they will explain to us what happened and why they rated him that way, but today we are enjoying his time at Manchester City.”he regretted, while praising the goalkeeper’s performances since the start of the season.
