Cruzeiro is in the middle of negotiations to recruit Gerson, former Flamengo player and currently at Zenit. The discussions involve significant adjustments, including the possibility of Jonathan Jesus leaving for Russia. Zenit is open to sale, but is asking for 15 million euros, in addition to the arrival of the 21-year-old central defender. The Brazilian club has already offered 10 million for Gerson, and according to globoesportehe would be ready to go up to 12 million euros, while the question of the transfer of Jonathan Jesus remains under discussion. If the operation includes the latter, the total amount would reach 25 million euros, which is exactly what Zenit paid for the former Marseille player last July.
Gerson was already in Cruzeiro’s sights, but interest increased with the arrival of Tite, who managed the player at Flamengo between 2023 and 2024 and also fielded him in four matches with the Brazilian selection in 2021. Pedro Lourenço, owner of Cruzeiro, recently confirmed that the Celestes were looking for “big names” to make up next season’s squad, after the departure of Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim. Gerson fits this profile perfectly, with an impressive record at Flamengo: two Libertadores, three Brazilian championships and a Brazilian Cup.
