The Professional Football League (LFP) surprised more than one follower of French football by announcing in recent months the holding of the 2025 Champions Trophy between OM and PSG in Kuwait. The Persian Gulf country put on the table the tidy sum of 3.5 million euros to tame competition from Ivory Coast and Oman and convince the League. This Thursday at a press conference, Pablo Longoria spoke about this choice.
“Playing a final and being in a situation where we can bring a title back to the club for the first time since 2012 is close to our hearts. Why Kuwait? It is a decision of the League, we are studying the economic model of the competition. I can understand that if there is commercial interest in going to play in Kuwait, it would be interesting on a product level. This takes us towards a budget of 3 million euros, this is not the economic model of the Spanish and Italian Super Cup. As a League we need to think about how to improve the commercial value of the competition.»
