Former German defender Sebastian Hertner died at the age of 34 following a dramatic accident in Montenegro, where he was on vacation. The former TSV 1860 Munich player lost his life in the Savin Kuk ski resort, after a technical failure of a chairlift. According to the first elements of the investigation, a collision between two baskets caused his ejection, leading to a fatal fall of around 70 meters. His wife, present with him on the installation, remained suspended in the air several meters above the ground. She was treated by emergency services, suffering from a broken leg and head trauma, while three other tourists also had to be evacuated after being stranded for several hours.
Trained at VfB Stuttgart, Sebastian Hertner began his professional career in 2009 with the Swabian club’s reserve team, before moving to Schalke 04 and then joining TSV 1860 Munich in 2013, where he played in the German second division. He then continued his career in several clubs in the lower divisions. German football has paid tribute to him in recent days. Stuttgart paid tribute to the memory of its former player, recalling his 65 matches played in the 3rd division with the club’s reserve, while Jan-Philipp Rose, member of the staff of Teutonia 05, his last club between 2022 and 2024, spoke “a friend and a role model”whose sudden disappearance had a profound impact on the entire club.
