After having been the great architect of the Parisian coronation against Flamengo in the final of the Intercontinental Cup (1-1, 2-1 tab), Matvey Safonov extended his perfect evening with a strong and symbolic gesture. A few minutes after stopping four penalties during the decisive session, the Russian goalkeeper offered the jersey he wore during this heroic performance to a Parisian supporter, still in disbelief. Especially since the Russian was only playing his fourth match with PSG this season, and who was able to leave his mark on a historic meeting for the capital club.

On a sporting level, this performance inevitably raises the question of hierarchy in the Parisian cages. Established despite the return of Lucas Chevalier, Safonov displayed a serenity and efficiency which weighed heavily on the outcome of the match, particularly during the penalty shootout. Without publicly deciding the debate, Luis Enrique saw one of his goalkeepers respond in a context of very high pressure, while Chevalier, back from injury, will now have to prove that he can regain the upper hand.
