PSG, one last title in pain

We were far from the stifling heat of Munich, on May 31, 2025, which became legendary, with PSG’s coronation in the Champions League against Inter Milan (5-0). It was downright cold at Al-Rayyan Stadium on Wednesday evening, in Qatar… The final of the Intercontinental Cup was even boring for a good while before an incredible final, since the winners of the Champions League won their sixth and final title of 2025 after the Champions Trophy, Ligue 1, the French Cup and the European Super Cup (in addition to the C1), thanks to three saves from Matvey Safonov during the penalty shootout (1-1, 2 tab to 1).

Vitinha and his teammates never managed to put the Copa Libertadores winner in trouble in the first half. Désiré Doué started at the forefront but barely existed in a grouped red and black block. The Parisians took advantage of the gifts from the opposing goalkeeper. On a failed clearance by Argentinian Agustin Rossi, Fabian Ruiz scored with a lob but the video referee refused it, the ball having gone out for a corner (9th). Then on a cross from Désiré Doué, Rossi let the ball escape for the opener for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (37th).

By leading the score, the European champions should have driven home the point. But the match changed at the start of the second half, when Marquinhos made a mistake in his area on Giorgian de Arrascaeta. The VAR and the central referee awarded a penalty and Jorginho equalized by performing his famous goat jump (61st).

Dembélé misses, Safonov crowns PSG

The red and blue entrants had the merit of bringing a second wind. The percussion of Bradley Barcola, in place of Senny Mayulu who entered in the 35th (after Lee Kang-In’s injury), brought danger. Ousmane DembĂ©lĂ© was started 79th. In added time of the second period, following a new error from Rossi, “Dembouz” saw his shot cleared by… Marquinhos (90th + 4)! This same DembĂ©lĂ© had two opportunities in quick succession to win his team at the end of extra time but failed to score, each time from the left (115th and 116th).

The 2025 Ballon d’Or, who came to collect his The Best Fifa Player trophy on Tuesday in Doha, even sent his shot on goal over the top! Bradley Barcola was unable to give his team the coronation on the 4th Parisian attempt. Matvey Safonov took care of everything, repelling strikes from Saul Niguez, Pedro Henrique, Leo Pereira and, finally, Luiz Araujo. The Parisian ultras, behind the goal of the tab session, pushed behind the Russian goalkeeper, who perhaps won his number 1 place this Wednesday…
