Cesc Fàbregas did not hide his bitterness after the official call-up of Assane Diao with Senegal for the African Cup of Nations. Questioned at a press conference this Saturday, the Como coach admitted having exchanged with the player then with the Lions coach, Pape Thiaw, without reaching common ground. “I prefer not to dwell too much on the subject. He was called up and I spoke to him after the match against Inter. He knows my opinion well. I also spoke to his coach, but the conversation didn’t end very well.”he declared to the media.

Despite this admitted disappointment, the Spanish technician confirmed that the club will respect the decision of the player and the Senegalese Federation. “They have every right. Diao will leave if he wants”said Fàbregas. As previously indicated, the 20-year-old striker, formerly of Real Betis, will join the Lions gathering this Tuesday, after playing the Serie A match against AS Roma on Monday, before flying off for the CAN scheduled from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026 in Morocco.
