For the 14th day of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich hosted Mainz this Sunday afternoon at the Allianz Arena. A very unbalanced poster on paper, pitting the solid leader of the championship against the red lantern. The Bavarians had 38 points before kick-off, compared to only 7 for Mainz. Vincent Kompany’s men approached this meeting with full confidence, with four consecutive victories in all competitions, while the visitors are in a delicate period, without the slightest success in their last six matches.
The Bavarian nugget, Lennart Karl, allowed Bayern to open the scoring in the 29th, on a service from Serge Gnabry (1-0). But Potulski equalized just before the break (1-1), giving Mainz hope. In the second half, Bayern Munich was surprised by a goal from Jae-Sung in the 67th minute, temporarily bringing the advantage to Mainz (1-2). But, true to his role as savior, Harry Kane came to restore the balance for the Bavarians by converting a penalty in the 87th minute. Despite this sharing of points, the ranking remains unchanged: Bayern retains its first place while Mainz remains in the bottom position, continuing its difficult season in the Bundesliga.
