PSG – Metz: a radical composition before Doha

PSG has known for a few minutes the official composition lined up in Metz, this Saturday, for the 16th day of Ligue 1. And the choice made by Luis Enrique does not go unnoticed. At the time of concluding the calendar year on the national scene, the Parisian coach decided in favor of a massive rotation, assumed, with a clear objective: to preserve his executives before the final of the Intercontinental Cup scheduled in Doha.

An assumed choice as a major meeting approaches

In a saturated schedule and after a demanding European sequence, the Spanish technician decided to sacrifice any notion of continuity. Facing the red lantern in Messina, PSG presents itself with a profoundly rejuvenated team, composed almost exclusively of players from training or accustomed to secondary roles. A decision which is part of the group’s management logic, but which stands out in terms of its scale.

The eleven revealed confirms this radical orientation. Safonov starts in goal, behind a defense remodeled around Zaire-Emery, Zabarnyi, Pacho and Hernandez. In the middle, Mayulu, Lee and Ndjantou are responsible for animation, while the attack relies on Doué, Mbaye and Ramos. No usual staff is present at kick-off, a rare choice at this level of competition.

A message sent to the locker room… and to young people

Beyond the purely physical aspect, Luis Enrique sends a strong signal. This match becomes a life-size test for a generation called to take more responsibility. Some, like Zaire-Emery or Doué, already know the demands of the high level. Others discover an unusual exposure, in a context that is certainly more affordable, but never neutral in Ligue 1.

It remains to be seen whether this bet will hold up sportingly. Metz, already a Lens winner this season, has nothing to lose. PSG, for its part, accepts the idea of a measured risk, convinced that the main thing is at stake elsewhere, in the days to come. This last domestic outing looks less like an objective in itself than like a transition, before a much more strategic international meeting.

The PSG eleven: Safonov – Zaire-Emery (cap.), Zabarnyi, Pacho, Hernandez – Mayulu, Lee, Ndjantou – Doué, Mbaye, Ramos.
