Two days after OM’s defeat at Lille (1-0), in Ligue 1, the Stade VĂ©lodrome was fired up for The Universe League on Sunday evening. ZinĂ©dine Zidane accepted the invitation from his nephew Ryad Zidane and was acclaimed by the Marseille public for this event consisting of three gala matches on a small Kings League pitch, before a mini concert with Soolking, Alonzo and Soprano.
The Ballon d’Or 98 thus participated in the “Match of legends” between PhocĂ©a Universe and King Capital. Franck RibĂ©ry overwhelmed MevlĂĽt Erdinç to beat SĂ©bastien Frey to open the score. Zidane was then thrown into the game in his team with Adil Rami, Taye Taiwo, Peter Luccin, Vitorino Hilton and Dimitri Payet.
Zidane was the decisive passer for RibĂ©ry and Payet before scoring his team’s 10th goal with his left! Alexandre Song let him strike… Opposite, we also found Christophe Jallet, Samuel Umtiti, Gerard PiquĂ©, the creator of the Kings League in Spain, and Ludovic Giuly, who ended up in the goals for King Capital. 10-1 victory for the Marseillais chaired by Mohamed Henni.
Zidane scorer, Barthez in the field
For this evening at the Vélodrome, Zinédine Zidane, the most famous native of Marseille on the planet, was able to be accompanied by one of his great friends from the 98 world champions, Fabien Barthez. They also won Euro 2000 together and lost the 2006 World Cup final against Italy (on penalties). Not to mention that the “Divine Bald” is an OM legend since he was the starting goalkeeper during the 1993 Champions League coronation.
As is often the case during gala meetings, Barthez entered as a field player, number 16 in the back, leaving it to Jérémy Gavanon to make the parades. He probably had the opportunity to wish Zidane good luck in his future mission as coach of the France team, starting next summer.
