The draw for the 2026 World Cup offered some great posters for the first round. And among them, we can cite the duel between Argentina and Algeria, in group J where we will also find Austria and Jordan.
Asked to comment on this draw, Argentinian coach Lionel Scaloni made the following comments. “ I know the Algerian coach (Vladimir Petkovic), he was my coach at Lazio, he is a great coach. I was with him just before the draw,” confided the coach of the world champions.
“It’s a good team, with great players, an impressive talent pool which feeds the French team and other national selections“added Scaloni, in comments reported by TyC Sports.
Scaloni, an avoidable shortcut
Scaloni’s words are quite dubious, especially if we remember the controversies that accompanied Argentina’s victory against France in the World Cup. We thus remember this song of shame, where the Blues players were taken back to their African origins (“They play for France but all come from Angola” or even about MbappĂ©: “His mother is Nigerian, his father is Cameroonian, but on the passport: French”).
In fact, it is true that France and Algeria “share” many talents. After playing in the French youth team, players like Rayan Cherki and Maghnes Akliouche, trained in France, chose to continue with the Blues. Other elements like Amine Gouiri, Houssem Aouar and Luca Zidane have opted for the Greens.
