Very close to leaving for Chelsea last summer, Mike Maignan still remains at the center of one of the major burning issues in Serie A. Having become imperial again this season under the psychological leadership of Massimiliano Allegri, the French goalkeeper has still not opened concrete negotiations to extend with AC Milan. If the management of the Rossoneri would be ready to offer him around 5 million euros net per year according to the Gazzetta dello SportMaignan would aim for a higher salary status, fueled in particular by approaches from abroad. Indeed, Bayern Munich is monitoring the situation carefully, while Manuel Neuer is reaching the end of his contract and is quite logically approaching retirement, after a huge loss against Arsenal.

However, the Milanese leaders want to remain confident. As explained by Igli Tare, sporting director of Milan, in the columns of the Gazzetta dello SportA “pact” would have been sealed between the club and Maignan before the start of the season: move forward calmly, focus on performances and postpone formal discussions until a more appropriate time. A strategy intended to maintain a peaceful climate, while implicitly recognizing that the issue will remain complex to resolve. In the meantime, Milan are enjoying the performances of Maignan returning to his best level… while closely monitoring a market likely to burst into flames at any moment.
