At a time when the LFP is trying to recover after its pitiful management of Ligue 1 TV rights, it will be delighted to learn that its Spanish counterpart has formed a relationship with his ex, DAZN. As a reminder, the British platform had signed a contract with the LFP to broadcast eight L1 matches (out of 9) for a check for €400 million per year. A deal which turned into a fiasco since the two parties have since divorced after only one season and the LFP launched its own channel, League 1+. Nothing to cool DAZN.

A deal worth more than 6 billion for LaLiga

The media has had another success by winning the contract to broadcast the FIFA World Cup and today, it has just secured its presence in Spain by extending one of the most prestigious championships in Europe. After retaining the TV rights to the Champions League in exchange for €366 million per year, Movistar+ has just won the TV rights to Liga for the period 2027-2032, along with DAZN. Clearly, each of the operators will be entitled to 5 matches per day. Moreover, DAZN And Movistar+ will also alternate “top picks” each weekend. In short, DAZN is guaranteed to have either the Real Madrid or FC Barcelona match every week, but will share the giant posters with the other broadcaster. The information was officially confirmed by the Spanish League.

“LALIGA today successfully concluded the commercialization process of LALIGA EA SPORTS residential/domestic rights in Spain for the 2027/28-2031/32 cycle, reaching a total value of more than 5.25 billion euros. This result represents a total increase of 6% compared to the previous cycle (2022-2027), which amounted to 4.95 billion euros, with Telefónica and Dazn renewing the allocation of 5 matches per day for each operator for a further five years.we can read in the press release published by the Spanish League. Excellent news for Javier Tebas, especially since LaLiga has negotiated a deal with a total value of 6.135 billion euros (+9% compared to the period 2022-2027) if we include the TV rights of the Spanish D2 (€35 million/year, +40%) and those of La Liga broadcast in bars (€130 million/year, +30%).

Tebas’ big shot

“In a complex national and international context, having ensured an overall growth of 9%, more than 500 million more than in the previous cycle, is excellent news for the economic viability of our clubs and for the future of Spanish professional football, which will obtain revenues from national rights exceeding 6.135 billion euros. At a time when many leagues are losing value, the fact that LaLiga continues to grow and reach historic heights is particularly important. This result reflects the solidity of our product and the confidence of the operators, largely favored by our determined fight against piracy, which has made it possible to increase the number of operators’ users, and by the efforts of the clubs to constantly improve audiovisual content, thus offering the best possible experience to supporters.indicated Tebas.

With this deal, Spain consolidates its place as runner-up in the Premier League With this new deal secured to the tune of 1.2 billion euros per season (domestic rights only), LaLiga confirms its status as “best of the rest”. If the Premier League remains untouchable (more than 2 billion euros per year for the period 2025-2029), Javier Tebas achieves the feat of maintaining Spanish revenues at a very high level, far ahead of the Bundesliga (1.121 billion per year, but only over four years) and Serie A. Financial stability which contrasts violently with the chronic instability of TV rights in France, where Ligue 1 is still struggling to promote its product at its fair value.
