If OGC Nice is the eternal pebble in the shoe of French football with a 17th match without a victory in the European Cup against Porto (a bitter 0-3 defeat) after a lightning opening score, it is, fortunately, only an anomaly in the French football landscape which has regained color this week.

If AS Monaco conceded a frustrating draw in the last seconds in Cyprus against the rough team of Pafos, the 5 other French representatives won and in what way since three of our clubs offered themselves the scalp of an English team. PSG dominated Tottenham at the Parc des Princes after a spectacular match (5-3) while OM overthrew Newcastle (2-1) thanks to a great Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

France regains color despite Nice

Another Premier League team to bite the dust yesterday in France, Crystal Palace, beaten by a formidable Strasbourg team who also overthrew the London club in the Conference League (2-1). Finally in the Europa League, OL, current leader of the League phase, defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 6-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Corentin Tolisso while LOSC crushed Dinamo Zagreb 4-0. So many performances which allow France to move up in the ranking of the current season but also in the ranking over the last five seasons which is so important for the qualifying places in the European Cup.

Currently fifth with 73.444 points, France has, for the first time this season, gained 0.625 points on Germany, currently 4th in the ranking over 5 years. As for the Netherlands, 6th, they are having one of the worst seasons in recent years and are now relegated to 8,744 points. Enough to see the future more calmly despite this famous little stone in the shoe…
