Le Gym continues its negative spiral in the Europa League. For its trip to Portugal this Thursday, OGC Nice lost 3-0 against Porto on the 5th day, thus remaining on five defeats in as many matches. The Niçois were surprised from the start, conceding a goal after only 20 seconds of play. On a quick counter, Pepe found Veiga, whose cross shot deceived Diouf.

Despite this catastrophic start, Nice tried to put its foot on the ball and establish its game. But the offensives were rare, the Niçois struggling to create danger, while Porto, more disciplined and quick in transition, multiplied the opportunities. The Riviera defense suffered and gave in a second time in the 33rd minute, Veiga scoring twice after a combination with Froholdt.

The Powerless Eaglets

Upon returning from the locker room, the appearance has not changed. Porto continued to dominate and even compounded the score from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, with Samu converting with composure. Nice had a few flashes of hope, notably with Mendy breaking into the area, but his shot only found Diogo Costa’s outside net.

The Niçois had other chances, notably through Clauss, but the attempts lacked the precision and power to really worry the Portuguese goalkeeper. The Nice attack, lacking rhythm and efficiency, never managed to put Porto in danger, confirming the difficult day for OGC Nice, now dead last in this C3 league phase.
