Paul Doyle on Wednesday admitted to all 31 charges against him for charging into the crowd during Liverpool’s championship celebrations last May, theAFP. His change of heart, after he pleaded not guilty in September, therefore put an end to the trial. In tears, the 54-year-old motorist admitted to having deliberately hit the supporters gathered in the city center, injuring 134 people, including eight minors and a six-month-old baby. According to the prosecution, Doyle appeared on videos “increasingly agitated” in front of the crowd and would have chosen to force his way through.

A former Royal Navy soldier and employed in cybersecurity before his arrest, Doyle is now due to appear in court on December 15 for sentencing. The events took place on May 26, when hundreds of thousands of fans celebrated Liverpool’s 20th English championship title, with the players present in a double-decker bus. Despite the streets being closed to traffic, Doyle had managed to rush behind an ambulance authorized to pass to help a victim of cardiac arrest.
