The boss of the Champions League is English! Leader of the Premier League, Arsenal took sole control of the C1 by beating one of the two other teams who had achieved success during the first days, Bayern (3-1).
The Gunners opened the scoring from a set piece, their great specialty, with a header from Jurrien Timber (22nd). Bayern reacted with a nice goal scored by their new nugget, Lennart Karl, only 17 years old (32nd). But the London machine took control of the game, and made the difference thanks to two entrants, Noni Madueke (69th) and Gabriel Martinelli (77th).
Arsenal also benefited from Inter’s defeat at Atlético (2-1). It was José Gimenez who gave the victory to the Colchoneros (90th + 3), while Piotr Zielinksi (54th) responded to the opening score of Julian Alvarez (9th), following a controversial action.
Liverpool, nothing is going well
Arsenal take on the role occupied last year by Liverpool, who led the Premier League and Champions League at this time of the season. A year later, the Reds are in distress.
While they remain on a terrible series of six defeats in seven matches in the league, and in particular a slap against Nottingham Forest (0-3) at Anfield, Arne Slot’s men sank again in their stadium, this time against PSV Eindhoven (1-4), notably with a double from the Moroccan Couhaib Driouech.
