Bad news for the Fennecs. Less than a month before the start of the CAN – scheduled from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026 in Morocco – Algeria is worried about one of its defenders.

During Losc’s victory over Paris FC (4-2) at the weekend in Ligue 1, Samir Chergui felt pain behind his thigh. Replaced at the hour mark, the Algerian international (3 caps) suffers from a hamstring injury, according to the daily The Team.

A glitch that comes at a bad time for the 26-year-old defender, who made a very good debut with Algeria. Called up for the selection for the very first time last September, Samir Chergui scored big points with Vladimir Petkovic during the last international break.

Hard blow for Chergui, good news for Bensebaïni

Starting in the Greens’ victories against Zimbabwe (3-1) and Saudi Arabia (2-0), the Parisian brought assurance and stability to a gaming sector plagued by doubts in recent months. Enough to make him a serious candidate for a major role in the central hinge. It remains to be seen whether it can be restored before the start of the CAN.

On the other hand, in the good news department, Ramy Bensebaïni, packaged for the November rally, is doing better. Victim of recurring back pain, the Borussia Dortmund defender returned to team training this Monday.

As a reminder, Algeria will begin the CAN on December 24 in Rabat, against Sudan. The Fennecs will continue with Burkina Faso four days later, before finishing the group stage against Equatorial Guinea on December 31.
