2026 World Cup: the disaster draw for Algeria

Algeria could fall into a very difficult group during the first round of the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA revealed this week
the composition of the hats for the 2026 World Cup. It is only on December 5, after the draw, that the teams qualified for the tournament will know their opponents in the group stage. A field which will be completed by the identity of the last participants after the play-offs scheduled for March 2026.

Until then, some projections are possible. Algeria, which qualified brilliantly after an almost perfect campaign in the Africa zone, could inherit a very difficult group. The Greens are placed in hat 3 and can expect a hearty menu from the group stage.

Hat 1 brings together all the favorites: the defending champion, Argentina, but also Spain, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium and even Germany. If they do not draw one of the host countries (Canada, Mexico or USA), Riyad Mahrez and his teammates will therefore come up against a world leader.

A group of death for Algeria?

The prospect of a France-Algeria poster is already making some observers relish. But the Fennecs could also meet other formidable nations, such as Uruguay or Japan in hat 2. Finally, if hat 4 houses the little thumbs of the plateau, Italy could be transferred there in the event of qualification via the play-offs. A “group of death” would influence, in the worst case, Algeria with France, Uruguay and Italy.
