Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez addressed several topics during the club’s general assembly on Sunday, including the European Super League. He notably mentioned UEFA’s opposition to this project.

In October, it was reported that Real Madrid were considering taking legal action against UEFA, following the European football governing body’s conviction for a “serious breach” of European competition law in its management of the Super League. Florentino Pérez has now confirmed it, according to the daily Diario AS.

“The Super League is a vital project in bridging the insurmountable gap between English football and the rest of the world. We overthrew a monopoly regime of more than 60 years in record time. In 2021, UEFA took the liberty of threatening clubs with exclusion and opened a disciplinary procedure to exclude us from the Champions League.

Four years later, the Court of Justice of the European Union handed down its judgment, and the Madrid courts handed down two damning judgments. » Faced with these decisions, LaLiga and UEFA minimize the situation and favor peace. They take us for fools. However, they agreed with us on 21 of the 23 points and assumed the costs.

“No one can sanction us for working for our future. Our determination allows us to claim from UEFA the damages it has caused us. We have initiated proceedings against UEFA in order to be compensated and to be able to organize the competition in the future. We did not come here to win our cases, but to have our demands implemented. I would like to thank the organizing teams for their efforts. An agreement was sought, but without success. UEFA encouraged us to contact the ECA. However, the ECA demands that we renounce any legal action against UEFA. This would potentially mean giving up billions of euros that we intend to claim.

Real does not give up

“We won the legal battle and we will win the next ones. Because it is the best project for all clubs. And they all admit it privately. »

Real Madrid could receive up to 4.7 billion euros following the legal proceedings.

The trial between Real Madrid and UEFA promises to be long, but if the club wins its case, it could receive up to 4.7 billion euros in damages.
