Teammate of Zinédine Zidane at Juventus for a season and obviously in the French team during the coronations at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 and until the 2006 World Cup final, David Trezeguet will closely follow “Zizou” as coach of the Blues next year. But “Trezegol” will have less opportunity to travel to Europe in the near future, as he now lives in Argentina, in Buenos Aires, where he grew up.
Now holding a manager’s diploma (after training in Spain) and a coach (with the South American Confederation), Trezeguet, 48, will become manager of River Plate. The Franco-Argentinian, who played in his favorite club at the end of his career (2012-2014), had positioned himself to become the new president of Millonario, but he gave up.
David Trezeguet is part of the team of Stefano Di Carlo, former club secretary who was elected new president of River. He was at his side at the inauguration ceremony of the new boss at the Monumental.
David Trezeguet rejects Diego Milito
The former AS Monaco striker is expected to take up one of the director positions to develop the River Plate brand on the continent and internationally. A role he already knows since he was ambassador of the Old Lady for several years.
To work at River, Trezeguet visibly refused the position of sports director at Racing Club de Avellaneda, in the suburbs of the Argentine capital. Diego Milito is the coach of this team, for his first experience as a coach, at 46 years old, and thought of Trezeguet. The golden scorer of the Euro 2000 final against Italy had a meeting with the leaders of Racing as well as the Milito staff but explained that he was on the verge of joining River Plate, as indicated by journalist Federico Madeo.
