Real Madrid welcomed LaLiga integrity officers this Friday to remind its players that sports betting on their championship or any other league competition is strictly prohibited. The objective of this annual campaign is also to raise awareness among players about the prohibition of using inside information or paying/receiving match-related bonuses. “Real Madrid applies zero tolerance with regard to betting and match-fixing, regardless of the criminal liability that cheating represents”club sources told the daily A.S.. According to the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE), “rigging is manipulation, an intentional act or omission intended to inappropriately alter the outcome or course of a competition to gain an unfair advantage”.

Rigging is punishable by the Spanish Penal Code, with up to 4 years in prison and 6 years of professional suspension. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) can also impose fines and revoke the license of players or clubs involved. To prevent any breach, Real Madrid “applies internal controls and monitors all levels, from the first team to youth, in football and basketball”and qualifies his device as ” model “. LaLiga organizes 160 mandatory integrity workshops each year for the 42 clubs and their youth teams, recalling in particular the ban on using confidential information, paying bonuses to third parties or artificially manipulating any gaming event likely to be the subject of betting.
