The good news keeps coming for Canal+. The encrypted channel won full rights to the Champions League for the period 2027-2031 in France, as well as those of the other European Cups. A victory obtained against Paramount during the second round of the auction launched by UEFA.
And that’s not all. Canal+ also gets its hands on the Youth League, magazines, summaries and all the extracts intended for social networks. The precise amount has not been filtered, but it would be slightly lower than the 480 million euros per season currently paid.
A twist could, however, reshuffle the cards. According to
The TeamCanal+ and beIN Sports are discussing an agreement to share certain Champions League posters. Maxime Saada is in fact negotiating the resale of part of the matches to the Qatari channel in order to reduce the bill.
BeIN Sports turns its back on Ligue 1
But it is Ligue 1 which could pay the price for this rapprochement. If beIN Sports now focuses its ambitions on the European Cups, the channel directed by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi could simply turn its back on the French championship. Today it only broadcasts one meeting per day, that of Saturday at 5 p.m., but could completely abandon its rights.
According to the latest information, beIN Sports has also planned to withdraw from Ligue 1 from next season. A decision that the LFP contests, considering that the Qatari channel cannot break its contract unilaterally. In any case, if an agreement were to emerge between Canal+ and beIN Sports, the Saturday 5 p.m. show on Ligue 1+ would inevitably be called into question.
