Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola cost his team more than £3million over his half-time talks.

The Premier League has warned the Catalan that this sum will increase if he does not meet its demands.

Guardiola’s side have been hit with this astronomical fine for the past two seasons for delaying the second half kick-off.

Last season the Cityzens were fined £1million

The Telegraph reports that last season the Cityzens were fined £1million due to their manager’s long-winded half-time speeches. The longest of these speeches delayed the start of the second half of a game by 2 minutes and 24 seconds.

This was an improvement on the previous season, in which City were billed £2.09million for delaying the start of the second half on a staggering 22 occasions.

The Premier League has argued that these delays compromise its efforts to impose an impeccable level of professional organization on the competition.

Guardiola was also forced to postpone his Friday press conference until 9:00 a.m., as Premier League regulations prohibit any media activity after 1:30 p.m.

Guardiola defends

This situation caused the discontent of the City coach, who told the press: “We train later and if we train from noon to 1:30 p.m., I won’t be able to be on time for the press conference. The Premier League does not allow me to speak to the media after 2 p.m. The club has warned that if I do not start at 2:00 p.m., I will be financially sanctioned, as will the club.

“We paid a large fine for being late at half-time, but in the Champions League final there was a show before the match, and the performers were always late. They should sanction the singers! Sometimes I arrive a minute late, but rules are rules. The Premier League is impeccable on this subject. »
