Having left Paris a little over four months ago, Gianluigi Donnarumma continues to bring PSG back into his speeches. The Manchester City goalkeeper, author of a solid performance this weekend against Newcastle, once again spoke about the conditions of his departure, suggesting that the frustration remains intact. The subject resurfaces while Paris is still wondering about its succession in goals.

Donnarumma’s reproaches

Questioned by Sky Italia, Donnarumma explained that he “was disappointed” by the way in which the Parisian management managed the discussions around its extension. According to him, the last few months at PSG marked a clear break : “I gave a lot, but the ending was completely different”he regretted, confirming that his departure to City, for around €30 million, was experienced as a form of injustice. The goalkeeper, however, insists on his gratitude to the supporters, but his speech reflects a still present unease.

The exit of the European champion comes in a particular context. At City, Donnarumma has alternated between the good and the less good since his arrival, blowing hot and cold in a team where the demands are maximum. His convincing match against Newcastle gave him a breath of fresh air, but his performances still remain controversial in England. Difficult, in these conditions, to completely erase the Parisian memory, especially since his departure fueled a sporting and financial debate within PSG.

Paris facing the goalkeeper puzzle

On the Parisian side, the question of whether the club regrets his departure necessarily arises. His successor, Lucas Chevalier, is struggling to string together regular performances despite some convincing releases. The leaders had chosen to turn a costly and sometimes complicated page, but the mixed results of the young goalkeeper inevitably revive the comparisons. Donnarumma’s comments add an additional layer to a case that seemed closed.

This new speech should not close the discussions around his visit to Paris, quite the contrary. Donnarumma suggests that he keeps something “on his heart”, and his performances in the Premier League will be closely scrutinized to measure the evolution of his career away from the Parc des Princes. As for PSG, the question of the goalkeeper position could come back to the fore depending on Chevalier’s trajectory in the coming months.
