Gianluigi Donnarumma has opened up about his move to Manchester City this summer and revealed he felt “betrayed” by Paris Saint-Germain following the way he was treated.
Donnarumma joined City in August, just months after leading PSG to their first Champions League title. He is also nominated for The Best FIFA award for best male goalkeeper, which will be awarded later this year.
As the 26-year-old’s contract expired, PSG coach Luis Enrique chose summer recruit Lucas Chevalier as the new starting goalkeeper. Donnarumma admitted that her last months in Paris had been “completely different”.
“It’s not easy to leave a club like this”
“It’s not easy to leave a club like this. After what happened I felt really bad “, Donnarumma told Sky Sports. “ I arrived and adapted to a certain style, but in recent months that style was no longer the same.
“It’s a shame after a season where we brought the Champions League back to Paris, which had never happened before. It hurts. But we have to turn the page and at PSG, my teammates and the supporters will always be dear to me.
“ I was disappointed”
“I was disappointed because when I arrived, I had adapted to PSG – I had taken particular care of it. But ultimately, these last few months have been completely different. This disappointed me.
“It’s something I’ll never be able to explain, but you have to accept it. I was disappointed with the way they handled the situation. It’s regrettable, but we must move forward. »
