AJA-OL (0-0): penalty and goal disallowed, did the referee make the right decisions?

AJ Auxerre and Olympique Lyonnais parted with a score of parity (0-0), at the end of a meeting marked by incidents of play concerning the refereeing.

In these times, theAJA
will be satisfied with it. Red lantern of Ligue 1, Christophe Pélissier’s team collected a point against a big name, Olympique Lyonnais. A heavyweight that didn’t look like it since OL showed up in Burgundy with a completely decimated team.

This was felt in the balance of power. Despite its technical superiority, Lyon conceded several clear chances, notably in the first period, where AJA could have tilted the match in its favor. Two hot situations should be noted. On the first, the young Rudy Matondo saw his first goal in Ligue 1 refused by Mr. Léonard after using VAR. Sékou Mara, who was the passer in this action, was also guilty of a charge behind the back of Clinton Mara (13th). A decision that seems right, at first glance.

The AJA is still missing the boat

In all cases, Mara thought he would make up for it a little later by obtaining a penalty in a duel with Lyon defender Moussa Niakhaté. Here too, Mr. Leonard’s decision seems justified in view of the slow motion. But the AJA missed the mark again since Lassine Sinayoko, lacking confidence, saw his attempt diverted by Dominik Greif (25th). A frustrating scenario for the Burgundians – one more -, even if, this time, the score has no longer changed. Despite several interesting situations after the break, OL did not have the resources to win in Yonne.
