Launched this summer to broadcast the French championship, Ligue 1+ is attempting to continue its development by extending its offering. In recent weeks, the LFP channel tried to acquire the rights to the French junior team, ultimately recovered by streamer Zack Nani. But it’s not over.
According to RMC, Ligue 1+ is now eyeing the Girondins de Bordeaux. To attract supporters whose club is not in Ligue 1, the League channel targeted the Aquitaine giant, which fell to National 2 after major financial problems.
In National 2, no media holds the rights to all the matches. Each club is therefore free, with the agreement of the FFF, to find a broadcaster for its home matches. This is where Ligue 1+ would like to position itself with Bordeaux.
Ligue 1+, an extra right?
For the moment, the Girondins’ home matches are broadcast this season on the Groupe Sud-Ouest channel, TV7 Bordeaux, but nothing has been signed according to RMC. Ligue 1+ could therefore have its chance.
The current boss of LFP Media, Nicolas de Tavernost, is the former president of the Girondins de Bordeaux, which should facilitate discussions. Ligue 1+ will propose installing four cameras for these National 2 matches.
