FC Barcelona has experienced several difficult transfer windows despite exceeding its salary cap, still managing to recruit renowned players such as Dani Olmo, Ilkay Gündogan and Joan Garcia.

Next summer promises to be even more exciting, with the Catalan club looking, in theory, to find a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish striker is at the end of his contract next season and remains discreet about his future. According to Catalan sources, Barça would like to part ways with him and recruit a new top striker. For his part, Lewandowski is reportedly willing to accept a reduced role to extend his contract, or join another major European club, but is not considering a move to Major League Soccer or Saudi Arabia.

Lewandowski courted by AC Milan.

Moreover, if FC Barcelona decides to part ways with Lewandowski, other clubs are already interested in him. The 37-year-old has been announced for the AC Milan side in recent weeks, and Tuttosport (via Sport) explains that the Rossoneri have started their charm campaign. Sporting director Igli Tare has met with Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi and they are reportedly willing to offer Lewandowski a contract for more than a year, to allow him to retire at the peak of his fame. AC Milan want Lewandowski and Luka Modric to guide them into a new era.

Could Barcelona find themselves with their backs against the wall regarding Lewandowski?

Although Barcelona may want to part ways with Lewandowski, until they have guarantees over their budget, they will not want to cut ties with him. Even if Ferran Torres could become the indisputable holder up front, Lewandowski proved against Celta Vigo the importance of a real surface fox. Unless an alternative is found, another year with Lewandowski could be their best option.
