Didier Deschamps appears this Thursday before the 17th criminal chamber of the Paris judicial court to confront Daniel Riolo, prosecuted for defamation after having described the coach as a ” liar “ on the subject of the management of Karim Benzema’s injury during the 2022 World Cup. For the lawyer of the Blues coach, Me Isabelle Wekstein, the words of the RMC columnist go far beyond the framework of a simple football debate according to the newspaper The Parisian : “he is accused of having lied to the whole world after dismissing Karim Benzema for non-medical reasons. We are calling into question his responsibility as a coach, and it is serious”she insists.

She recalls that Didier Deschamps “has always accepted sports criticism, but not that his honor is harmed”. Furthermore, the French team doctor, Franck Le Gall, and the security officer Mohamed Sanhadji, both present during the Aspetar episode, must testify to confirm the coach’s version, who is demanding a symbolic euro for moral damage.
