As January approaches, it appears that the Catalan club are once again focusing on strengthening their central defense.
The Blaugrana finally let Iñigo Martínez go last summer, despite the fact that the Basque defender was the best in their defense and one of their leaders. Since then, Ronald Araujo has struggled to establish himself, and Andreas Christensen has once again been faced with physical problems. Eric Garcia is the one who has come closest, but given Barça’s defensive difficulties, it remains to be seen if he represents a long-term solution.
FC Barcelona maintains its interest in Marc Guehi.
Guehi could be available for free.
Since his transfer to Liverpool failed in September, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been in the sights of several major European clubs, including FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. La Cadena SER indicates that Liverpool remain favorites to secure the services of Guehi next summer, when he will be free of any contract, but that FC Barcelona maintain their interest.
According to their information, Barça is considering a reinforcement in defense and Guehi is among the options they are following closely. The fact that he usually plays on the left side is an additional advantage.
Guehi has also attracted interest from Real Madrid in recent months, but it appears the Madrid club are looking elsewhere. Guehi’s salary demands would make him “too expensive” for the Merengues. Real Madrid are now interested in Ibrahima Konaté, whom Guehi would theoretically replace at Liverpool, and Dayot Upamecano from Bayern Munich, who are also free from any contract next summer.
The fact that Real Madrid, whose financial situation is healthier and the wage bill larger, considers Guehi too expensive raises the question of whether the Blaugrana can afford him. It is also possible that Real Madrid do not want to make such a significant financial commitment to his profile.
