The outcome of the trial could result in an amount change of up to 440 million euros.
Both parties appeared before the Industrial Court in Brussels, after several attempts at mediation and 18 months of litigation. Mbappé filed a complaint against PSG for non-payment of his salaries for April, May and June 2023, i.e. the last three months of his contract, while PSG is seeking damages for breach of contract.
Mbappé and PSG are demanding 440 million euros in damages.
According to Marca, Mbappé is demanding more than 260 million euros in damages from PSG. The initial amount of unpaid wages amounts to 55 million euros, but he also believes he is entitled to compensation for paid leave, damages for harassment, several breaches of contract, unfair dismissal, late payments and a signing bonus.
PSG is claiming 180 million euros in damages. Part of this sum is linked to loss of luck and refers to Mbappé’s transfer compensation from AS Monaco to Paris, as well as additional damages for breach of contract. Their argument is based on an alleged verbal agreement in which Mbappé agreed to forgo large sums of money if he left the club free of any contract. The total stake for both parties amounts to the considerable sum of 440 million euros, depending on the outcome of the trial.
PSG press release regarding the legal proceedings
PSG conducted the procedure publicly and published a statement on Monday reaffirming its position. This press release, relayed by Diario AS, indicates that the winner of the Champions League claims that Mbappé acted unfairly.
“The club presented evidence demonstrating that the player acted unfairly by concealing his decision not to renew his contract for almost eleven months, between July 2022 and June 2023, thereby depriving the club of any possibility of concluding a transfer. »
“The player contested an agreement concluded with the club in August 2023, which stipulated a reduction in his remuneration if he decided to leave freely, in order to preserve the financial stability of the club following the exceptional investment made,” indicates the press release.
