Bad news for Luca Zidane

After his big debut for the Algerian team on October 14, during a match without stakes against Uganda (the selection having already ensured its qualification for the 2026 World Cup), Luca Zidane did not have the opportunity to honor a second cap with the Greens. The son of “Zizou”, once again called up by Vladimir Petkovic, withdrew from the Algerians’ two friendly matches, one month before the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco (December 21, 2025-January 18, 2026).

The Granada player injured his adductors and his injury does not seem really serious. Luca Zidane took the opportunity to visit the great mosque of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, he who is obviously of Algerian origin through his father.

The one who grew up in Madrid and who was trained at Real then returned to Spain and more precisely to the magnificent Andalusian city of Granada. The 27-year-old goalkeeper did not return to collective training with the Nazaries on Wednesday, and is therefore expected to miss the Liga 2 match against Cordoba on Saturday (9 p.m.).

Luca Zidane vs. Theo Zidane

This weekend’s meeting has symbolic importance for the Zidane family since it is the clash between the two brothers who play in the Segunda Division. Luca, 27, could thus find Théo, 23, midfielder for the Cordoba team, who started in his team’s last match. In the standings, Granada must absolutely win at home to leave 19th place in the standings, the first of four synonymous with relegation.

Luca Zidane, if he is recovered, has a handful of matches to play with his club in the coming weeks before being called up for the CAN (Algeria’s first match against Sudan on December 24). The former U20 tricolor should remain the understudy of Alexis Guendouz, the current number 1 of the Greens. Even if the Stéphanois (born in Saint-Etienne and trained with the Greens) showed little reassurance in his kicking game against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Where the son of “Zizou” is praised by Algerian followers for his kicking game.
