Leonardo first came as leader of PSG in 2011 before leaving in 2013, then returning for the 2019-2022 period. The end of this second adventure has often been blamed on Kylian Mbappé. Relations between the striker and the sports director had become complicated. The Brazilian therefore left the club, when the world champion renewed his contract for two more seasons. Leonardo was not really in phase with this extension. According to him, Mbappé wanted to leave. “When he renewed his contract, he had conditions to stay and I didn’t agree. I couldn’t stay. There were choices. I would have said no before. Between Qatar and me, there has never been a problem», begins Leonado on the airwaves of RMC.

If I could have stayed if Mbappé had left? I don’t know if he got my head. It was a different vision at one point», he continues, explaining why he would have preferred to see Mbappé leave PSG. “Because he wanted to leave. It wasn’t about money. He stayed because he is Parisian but he wanted to go to Real Madrid.» «A player can never be bigger than the club» concludes the one who lives in Milan and stays far from the world of football.
