Lamine Yamal is convinced that “exceptional evenings” await FC Barcelona before their long-awaited return to Camp Nou.

The teenager has become a real sensation for the Blaugrana in recent years, despite very limited playing time in the Catalan club’s legendary stadium. But the countdown to the return to the legendary pitch is well and truly underway, and the Spaniard is visibly impatient.

Yamal eager to return to Camp Nou

In May 2023, FC Barcelona said goodbye to Camp Nou, with the stadium beginning a vast renovation project. After numerous delays and some controversies involving workers, the giant stadium is preparing for a gradual reopening this month. The reigning La Liga champion received authorization from the municipality to welcome around 23,000 supporters for the resumption of official matches in this stadium, which already welcomed 23,000 spectators during a training session open to the public at the start of the month. Furthermore, Yamal has only played a few times at Camp Nou since his debut for Barça’s first team in April 2023. The 18-year-old recently shared his joy on social media at the idea of setting foot on the pitch at this legendary stadium again.

In an Instagram story, he wrote: “ Exceptional evenings await me »before zooming in on the Camp Nou with his phone.

When will FC Barcelona play at Camp Nou again?

For most of the last two years, during the construction of the Camp Nou, FC Barcelona played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, which can accommodate more than 50,000 spectators. According to some sources, Barça is waiting to obtain a 1B license, which would allow it to open an additional stand and welcome 45,401 supporters at the Camp Nou. The manager of FC Barcelona, Joan Sentelles, says he is optimistic about the possibility of playing in his legendary stadium, whose capacity is reduced to less than 30,000 seats, against Athletic Club on November 22 in La Liga.

He told Esport3: “Our aim is to have the stadium ready in time for the match against Athletic Club. As soon as we obtain the 1B license, we will open the side stand, which will already give us a capacity similar to that of the Olympic Stadium. At that point, it would no longer make sense to continue playing there; all our matches will be played here.”

Sentelles added that they hope to almost triple the stadium’s current capacity by the end of 2025.

“The aim is to open the entire stadium to 62,000 spectators before the end of the year,” he revealed.
