The tension is palpable in Germany. It is this Monday evening that the verdict will be rendered in Group A of the Europe zone qualifiers. And before this last day of qualifying, the Mannschaft is very far from being assured of punching its ticket for the 2026 World Cup.

The situation is not catastrophic either since Florian Wirtz’s teammates occupy first place with 12 points. But it is worrying because for this final meeting they face Slovakia, tied for second place with a worse goal difference (+4 against +7).

Germany under pressure

A victory or a draw will be enough for the Germans to validate their place at the North American World Cup next summer (from June 11 to July 19). A defeat, on the other hand, would send them straight to the play-offs in March. Like Italy, Ukraine and, undoubtedly, Turkey and Poland.

Beyond the pressure linked to the result, the worry comes from the opponent. Slovaks who, at the beginning of September, got the better of the Germans near Bratislava (2-0). In Leipzig, they will have absolutely nothing to lose, unlike their hosts.
