Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guehi have been mentioned, but at this stage the priority remains Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté.
Less than two months before the opening of negotiations with interested clubs, Konaté is still far from an agreement with Liverpool. Their final offer is already on the table, but Real Madrid hope he will turn it down to join the Bernabéu next summer.
Konaté is still far from an agreement with Liverpool
Real Madrid have a major advantage in the race for Konaté: the defender is a close friend of Kylian Mbappé, and the striker is now using this relationship to his advantage.
Asked by Téléfoot, Konaté revealed that Mbappé “calls me every two hours so that I sign for Real Madrid”. The Liverpool defender joked about the situation, but the revelation underlines Real Madrid’s intention to sign the France international when his contract at Anfield expires.
Time is on Real Madrid’s side.
The fact that Konaté currently shows no signs of wanting to extend his contract with Liverpool plays into the hands of Real Madrid. There are less than two months left before they can officially begin negotiations for a pre-contract, and it would not be surprising if steps were taken as early as the start of January to reach an agreement.
The next few weeks could be decisive for Konaté’s future at Liverpool. If he fails to reach an agreement on the terms of a new contract before the end of the year, it will open the way for Real Madrid to secure his services.
