Harry Kane has continued to pile up goals since his arrival at Bayern Munich, and the current season has only confirmed his status as a scoring machine. With already 23 goals in just 17 games, the English striker is playing to stratospheric standards. Since joining the Bavarian club, his numbers are almost dizzying: 108 goals in 113 matches in all competitions, accompanied by 29 assists. Enough, inevitably, to fuel the debate around his claims for the Ballon d’Or.
But Kane keeps a cool head. Questioned by The Mirror, the captain of the Three Lions ensures that he has no illusions about the criteria which shape the prestigious individual award. For him, statistics are simply not enough.
Favored by his club?
“I could score 100 goals this season, if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, I probably won’t win the Ballon d’Or,” he explains bluntly.
“It’s the same for Haaland, it’s the same for all the players. You have to win the big trophies. »explains the former Tottenham captain.
The Englishman recognizes, however, that his sporting situation could work in his favor. Bayern are one of the favorites to lift the Champions League this season, and the English selection will arrive at the Euro and then the World Cup with high ambitions. Two fields on which Kane hopes to finally win the major titles that are still missing from his record… and which could, this time, open the door to the Ballon d’Or.
As a reminder, the last English player to win the Ballon d’Or was Michael Owen in 2001, 24 years ago. Kane will be in action at 6 p.m. with the Three Lions for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a trip to Albania.
