In recent weeks, CAF revealed the list of nominees for the title of best African player of the year. A list which caused a lot of reaction, notably with a few absent. We found in particular Achraf Hakimi, Mohamed Salah, Victor Osimhen, Serhou Guirassy, Iliman Ndiaye, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Pape Matar Sarr, Denis Bouanga, Fiston Mayele and Oussama Lamlioui. But the Cameroonian Bryan Mbeumo and the Congolese Yoane Wissa, sensational with Brentford last season, Omar Marmoush, author of an astonishing start to the season with Frankfurt before his transfer to Manchester City, Ademola Lookman, title holder, but also Antoine Semenyo, attraction from Bournemouth, were not present.
No matter, this Sunday, CAF revealed the list of three finalists for the African Ballon d’Or. Big favorite this year, Achraf Hakimi is obviously present as is the Egyptian Mohamed Salah. To complete this list, we find the Nigerian Victor Osimhen who is playing this Sunday evening for a place in the final of the qualifying play-offs for the 2026 World Cup.
